California requires most vehicles undergo a smog check once every two years. If you’ve received your registration renewal from the DMV, visit Willow Glen Union 76 for a smog check. We are a licensed California smog inspection station located in San Jose, CA.

During a smog check, our team will test your vehicle’s exhaust system to ensure it is not emitting too many pollutants or smog into the environment. We will measure the amount of emissions your vehicle produces and compare the amount to California’s standards.

Diesel Smog Checks

The diesel smog test will focus on a visual inspection of your diesel car or truck emissions / smog components, a system check of the On Board Diagnostics (OBD II) system, and a smoke check for visible smoke.

DMV Required Smog Checks

DMV in the San Jose, CA area employs a biennial smog certification program; meaning, your qualifying vehicle must undergo a smog test every 2 years. Your registration renewal reminder should indicate whether it's time for your smog inspection.

Out of State Smog Checks

Do not obtain a smog check in another state, it will not be valid in California. The California DMV does not recognize out of state smog inspections for the purposes of initial vehicle registration in this state or vehicle registration renewal.

Star Directed Smog Checks

Smog Check Certifications

Smog certifications are good for 90 days from the date of issuance. The registration renewal notice mailed to you by DMV will indicate if a smog certification is required.
